Dial-A-Ride
is a transportation service for senior citizens and persons
with disabilities. The City of Whittier Dial-A-Ride is available
for seniors (60+) and disabled persons. The service is provided
from curb to curb within the Whittier and La Habra Heights
City limits. The service is available: |

An application must be filled out and verified at the Senior Center
before using the service. A doctor’s certification is required
for those qualifying under disability. To apply for Whittier Dial-A-Ride,
please call the Transit Office at (562) 698-2131. After purchasing
a ride card, you may call the dispatch office to pre-schedule
a ride. Pre-scheduled trips are guaranteed timely service, same
day trips are subject to availability. Cards can be purchased
at the Whittier Senior Center, 13225 Walnut, or by mail through
the Transit Office at the Whittier Historic Depot located at 7333
Greenleaf Ave., Whittier, CA 90602. The cards are $5 and $10.

Taxi
Vouchers
Taxi vouchers to
allow Whittier Dial-A-Ride passengers to travel outside the Whittier
City limits for medical and dental appointments are now available.
The Taxi Voucher Program allows Whittier Dial-A-Ride passengers
to travel to medical and dental facilities in the cities of Hacienda
Heights, La Habra, La Mirada, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs and
unincorporated Whittier territory, as well as St. Jude Hospital
in Fullerton, Beverly Hospital in Montebello and the Kaiser Hospitals
in Bellflower and Downey. Passengers may also travel to Rose Hills
Cemetery.
Passengers may purchase taxi vouchers with a face value of $7
for $1 each, up to a maximum of 12 vouchers per month per person.
They may use a maximum of two vouchers to travel to Hacienda Heights,
La Habra, La Mirada, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, unincorporated
Whittier and Rose Hills and a maximum of three vouchers to travel
to St. Jude, Beverly, Kaiser Bellflower and Kaiser Downey hospitals.
Passengers will need to pay in cash any taxi fare costs in excess
of the vouchers.
The programs will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through
Friday. Advance reservations of 24-hours are recommended; same-day
service is subject to taxicab availability. Special vehicles to
accommodate wheelchairs must be reserved 24 hours in advance.
Taxi vouchers may be purchased by Whittier Dial-A-Ride passengers
with a current application on file. The vouchers may be purchased
either by mail or in person at the Whittier Historic Depot, the
Uptown Senior Center or Parnell Park. The vouchers are valid for
60 days from date of purchase, and unused vouchers may be exchanged
for updated ones.

Eastside
Transit Corridor Phase 2 Project Update Meetings
Metro
invites you to a Project Update on the Eastside Extension Transit
Corridor Phase 2 study. The goal of this proposed study is to
improve mobility in the Corridor by connecting the Metro Gold
Line Eastside Extension (Under construction) to the cities further
east of Los Angeles. Please join us to receive a status report
on the study. Based on feedback from community meeting held in
November 2007 and further technical analysis, the project team
continues to refine alternatives as part of the Alternatives Analysis
(AA). The project team would like to update you on the potential
alignments, transit modes, configurations and screening criteria
used during this process. Whittier community meeting to be held
at the Uptown Senior Center, 13225 Walnut St on Wednesday April
9 from 6:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
La
Habra Heights Dial-A-Ride
The City of La Habra Heights contracts with the City of Whittier
to provide Dial-A-Ride service to residents of that community.
City of Whittier Transit staff manages the transportation service.
La Habra Heights Dial-A-Ride provides pre-scheduled, curb-to-curb
service for seniors 60 years and older and for persons with disabilities
living in that City. The service area includes the City of La
Habra Heights, La Habra, Whittier and selected medical facilities
in the area. The La Habra Heights Service goes into Whittier as
far west as Colima Road. To travel further into Whittier, passengers
need to buy a DAR card. Service is provided Monday through Friday
between the hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Discount
MTA passes for Residents
If you are a City
of Whittier resident, you can buy MTA and EZ Pass monthly passes
at a discount! They may be purchased at the Whittier Senior Center,
13225 Walnut St, Whittier and at the Transportation Depot, 7333
Greenleaf Ave., Whittier from the 25th of the month to the 10th
of the following month. You must provide proof of City of Whittier
residency to obtain the discount. For more information, call the
