The City of Whittier Community Services Department cordially welcomes you to participate at the Whittier Senior Citizens Center. We are proud to present a comprehensive program of human services and recreation activities for the mature adult, 55 years of age and older. This facility is a multi-purpose senior center open seven days a week for socialization and drop-in programs as well as a scheduled program of educational classes, special events, cultural activities, lectures, health screenings, exercise programs, volunteer opportunities and much more. Membership in the Center is just $3 per year for residents and $8 for non-residents. Benefits include a membership I.D. card, some mailings and discounts for special events, dances, etc.

At both the Whittier Senior Center and Parnell, recreation/instruction classes are held weekly in various art media (oils, watercolor, stained glass, and quilting) line dance and ballroom dance, chair fitness, and walking tours. Educational classes, discussion groups, lectures, and film series are held regularly. Drop in activities include card playing, billiards, TV, exercise bike, reading, etc. Social activities, dances and special events, holiday parties and entertainment are also on the calendar. 3rd Saturday every 3 months.

WOODWORKERS OF WHITTIER
The Woodworkers of Whittier (WOW) cordially invites all seniors to the wood toy block painting project, under the supervision of coordinator Joe Carrillo.
Wednesday, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
AMERICAN LEGION POST 51
3rd Tuesday of each month.
6:30 p.m. at Whittier Senior Center.
SASSFA NUTRITION PROGRAM
Meals, Programs and Social Activities, Case Management, Friendly Visits at Whittier Senior Center.
FOOT AND ANKLE CLINIC
Dr. William Spak will check your feet and ankles for corns, bunions and other foot disorders. He’s here on the 2nd Monday of the month from1-2 p.m. (By Appointment Only) at Whittier Senior Center.
DOLL PROJECT
The Doll Project is accepting donations of fabric, dolls and stuffed animals for their workshops that are held Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Stop by, say hello and put your sewing skills to work by helping to restore some of the items for Whittier area children.
Thursday, 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. at Whittier Senior Center.
MONTHLY DANCES
Dances are held from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. every other 2nd and 3rd Saturday of the monthh at the Whittier Senior Center and the 2nd Saturday at the Parnell Center. For ages 55 and older. Door prizes and refreshments are provided. Fee is $5.00 per person.
CHAIR FITNESS
Feel like you need to work on your upper body strength but don't have the energy? Have you tried everything but lose focus? Well, we have the solution for you. Chair fitness is an aerobic work out in a chair, which gives great results.Class schedule is M-W-F 9:00 - 9:45a.m. Class is free, just be prepared to break a sweat!
FREE LEGAL COUNSELING
1st Tuesdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Whittier Senior Center (By Appointment Only).
HEARING AID CHECK
On the 2nd Thursday of the month from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. at the Whittier Senior Center (By Appointment Only). Check up includes battery door replacement, whistling check and other on-site repairs. Courtesy of Dr. Davis & Lori Hallett, MA (off site repair at your cost).
WEEKLY FLICKS
Come and watch some great movies on the big screen TV at 1:00 p.m. each Wednesday at Parnell Senior Center, and Thursday/Friday at 1 Uptown. Call the Senior Center for monthly movie listings.
JOIN THE WALKING GROUP
The walking group meets Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at the Whittier Senior Center (unless otherwise noted) as they visit local sites or utilize public transportation. The walkers are a self-directed group. Call (562) 464-3370 for monthly locations.
TAI CHI
Explore the ancient Chinese form of coordinated body movements, focusing on the circulation of internal energy "chi" at the Whittier Senior Center and Parnell Senior Center. Become revitalized, relaxed, tolerant, self-confident, stronger and healthier in both mind and body. Classes will be held at the Senior Center on Tuesdays. First session is 8:30-9:30 a.m. The second session is 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. There is also a class on Thursdays from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Classes are $3.00 per class.
DINNER AND A SHOW
Come enjoy a night out. Tired of eating the same old thing and eating alone? Let's have dinner, great conversation and a movie with your friends on the go. We meet every 4th Monday of the month at Whittier Senior Center and 4th Tuesday of the month at Parnell Senior Center- check the center for monthly menu.
